MEDC & LEDC ... not only a label

Human development index is the measure of the "well-being" of a country. It is based in factors like:
  • Life expectancy
  • Life quality
  • Education
  • GDP per capita
With this factors an evaluation is done to the country and it can be classified in one of 2 options:

MEDC (more economically developed countries):
  • Industrialized nations with high GDP
  • Relatively rich population
  • High level of resource use per capita
  • Relatively low population growth rates

LEDC  (less economically developed countries):
  • Less industrialized or have none at all
  • May have plenty of natural capital but usually is exported and processed in MEDC's
  • Lower GDP and high poverty rates
  • Large population sectors with low standard of living
  • High population growth rates
